Merry Monday 165:

Good morning all!  I hope you enjoyed your weekend.  It was a hot one here!  We spent some more time outside adding rock to the sides of our house.  We are almost done landscaping for this year - I can see the end!!!  Just a few more things to do!

This week at Merry Monday, Sue has chosen the theme of using CANDLES and FLOWERS on your Christmas card:

I decided to go shabby chic/vintage on this one.  I I found this vintage image on Pinterest (unfortunately the pin goes nowhere) which I framed with Spellbinders Classic Oval and distressed with Craftsmart Gold and Chocolate inks.  I then pulled out some complementary papers from Authentique Joyous collection.   Lastly I added some Wild Orchard Crafts flowers and crown pins and a SSS Peace On Earth sentiment stamped in Versafine Onyx Black

As always, do not forget to check out the rest of my teamies' fantastic creations at Merry Monday and come play along too!!!

Love Bunches:

Hi all!  I have been working in the craftroom today but only managed to create one card.  Uck!  Don't you hate when that happens.  Nothing was going right today =(

This card was the best of the day, the others are being set aside possibly headed for the trash.

I started with Reverse Confetti's Love Notes and Tag Me Confetti Cuts.  The sentiment is from RC's Petals 'n Posies stamped in Versafine Onyx Black.  I created the background with Hero Arts Soft Granite ink and MFT Herringbone Bricks stencil.  Lastly I added American Crafts twine and Studio Calico clothespin.

I created this card for the following challenges:

Thanks for the visit - cheers to you all!!

Watercolour Peonies:

Good morning all!  We have been hard at work here building our fence - it looks so pretty!!  We have basically been sharing a yard with two other neighbours since we moved to our new house a year and half ago.  It's so nice to have own space now!!!

I have also been working in my craftroom too.  The card I am sharing with you today has been in the works for 24 hours.  I started yesterday morning then went to work outside, then came back to the card.  Before bed I pressed my watercolour paper over night and am now finally able to put on the finishing touches!  I have some tips below too!

I started with Stampendous! Jumbo Peony set (retired) which I heat embossed with Stampendous! Opaque White embossing powder then I masked the peony a few times to achieve my background.  I painted an ombre effect to each flower with my cheap watercolour paints.  I then added a vellum strip with a SSS Friendship Messages sentiment.  I was going to add some gold sequins but felt it took away from the flowers.

Watercolour Tips:  I like to use heavy watercolour paper (140+ lbs) as it buckles less.  I keep an old hairspray bottle filled with water handy so I can spritz my watercolour paper first before adding the paint (pink in this example) as it keeps the paint very loose.  I love how it bleeds into each layer of pink colour.  After finishing the one pink flower, I would then let it completely dry.  Next I will spritz the next flower (purple in this example) with my water bottle and start the process all over again and let that flower dry and so on.  If you don't let the flowers dry separately then the pink flower would bleed into the purple.

Watercolour Paper Warping Tips:  After the WHOLE painting is dry I then will turn it over and spritz the BACK of the paper, making sure I get the whole back quite wet.  Next I grab an open phone book, then place a piece of paper towel, next my watercolour painting face down, then a piece of wax paper, lastly another piece of paper towel, and then close up the book to press the paper flat.  I then waited overnight to take it out but essentially it could have been taken out after 3+ hours.  Voila!  You have a FLAT piece of watercolour paper!  Nothing bother me more than trying work with wonky paper!  I have heard of people doing a low set iron but I have not tried that one yet.

Vellum Heat Embossing Tips:  Once you have your stamped image with embossing powder on the vellum, take your heat embossing tool and wave quickly (keep it moving!) back and forth underneath the vellum.  There will be far less buckling if you keep your heat tool moving.  If you do get a warp then heat from the top on the one spot.  I then adhere my vellum piece to my card with a Martha Stewart glue pen as it dries completely transparent.

(I apologize if I keep/kept? jumping from present tense to past tense in my above tips.  I tried to proofread it but frankly English was not my best subject in school).

Phew - that was a lot of typing - sorry all!

I have created this card for the following challenges:
use ombre and/or embellishment clusters

Well that is it for me today - enjoy your Wednesday.  Cheers all!

Merry Monday 162:

Good morning all!  I hope you enjoyed your weekend.

This week at Merry Monday, Kristie has chosen the theme of using TAG(S) on your Christmas card:

Another easy one for me as I LOVE using tags on cards.

I started with some of my favourites from Reverse Confetti including Circle 'n Scallops and Tag Me Confetti Cuts.  The sentiment is from SSS Season's Sentiments stamped in Versafine Onyx Black.  The papers are from Pink Paislee's Merry & Bright collection and lastly I added some Freckled Fawn Dew DropsAmerican Crafts twine, and Studio Calico clothespin.

Limy Goodness:

Hello all!  Another fantastic day out there - I hope you have been enjoying some sunshine in your neck of the woods.

Put on your sunglasses as I have a fun and BRIGHT card to share with you.

I started with Reverse Confetti's Fresh 'n Fruity and Label Me Confetti Cuts and Big Chevron Pretty Panels.  I gave the Fresh 'n Fruity sentiment an ombre effect by stamping in Memento's Cottage Ivy and Pear Tart.  I used Memento Dandelion ink and MFT Herringbone Bricks stencil to give the background a bit of interest.  Lastly I added a couple Studio Calico enamel dots.

I have created this card for the following challenge:

Well that is it for me today - enjoy what is left of your weekend.  Cheers all!!!

Vintage Coffee:

Good morning all!  What a simply gorgeous day out there!  Now I know what you are thinking - if it's so beautiful outside then what are you doing inside???  Well I wanted to get my design team application for The Card Concept submitted.

I went all the way back to The Card Concept's "use a coffee theme" challenge:

I am applying for the "Shabby Chic" style.  I decided on this style because I thought it would be a great opportunity to use some of my shabby stash (which I have a LOT of).

I always like to challenge myself and use every style of card making out there and shabby chic is one of my favourites!!

Shabby Chic and Vintage

Definition:
  • the use of used, worn or inexpensive components to make stylish goods
  • distressed or sponged edges
  • old feel-antiqued
  • lots of embellishments
  • ribbons or lace
  • lots of layers

My card is inspired by of course, the coffee theme through and through!

I found this vintage image on Pinterest (unfortunately the pin goes nowhere) which I framed with Spellbinders Classic Oval and Labels Eight dies and distressed with Craftsmart Gold and Chocolate inks.  I then pulled out some complementary papers from MME's Vintage Finds collection (retired).  Lastly I added some Wild Orchard Crafts flowers and a Reverse Confetti Be A Barista sentiment stamped in Versafine Onyx Black

I also created this card for the following challenge:
"use it up" (my paper)

I had a lot of fun making this card and hope to be chosen for the team Lesley!  Thanks for the opportunity to apply!

Cheers all!
